Gloop Unit
London, UK
Gloop Unit are the kind of band that manages to remind you that the underground music scene is alive and well. The band’s influences run deep in jazz and electronic to create something that’s truly unique, dreamy and compelling. From an emotional reflection on the awkwardness of being alive to the unsettling experience of a sinister dreamlike state, their songs move fluidly across genres with the ease of Stereolab and King Gizzard. Even the vocal lines are eclectic, jumping from an almost dancy David Byrnesque melody in Imitation to an oneiric, deep theme in Thunder.

“Musically, we kind of grew up together. We definitely liked 90s disco tracks, even the 80s, a bit of everything.”

Talking about their creative process, the band said: We'll just jam for a long long time and record it all on a phone and then someone will take it upon themselves to go through the 20 Minute recording and pick the bits that are worth keeping. At the next rehearsal we then go back and write the structure of a song. Other times Marko (synthesiser, vocals) will play white noise or a kind of general ambient sound and then we kind of like, just get that going in the room. There is usually just a starting point, around which we create all the other sounds.
Musically, we kind of grew up together. We definitely liked 90s disco tracks, even the 80s, a bit of everything. Hip hop, and a lot of electronic music. We listen to a lot of the same stuff… we played a lot of parties together. With their mesmerizing, hypnotic riffs that come together to create what can only be called an Experience (yes, with a capital “E”), Gloop Unit will make you wish you’d heard them sooner.
