Stan B (Black Market Karma)
London, UK
Stanley Belton is the creative force behind Black Market Karma. He joined Act Cool Records - on the day of his birthday, no less - to present a previously unrecorded solo set. The performance ranged from a pure singer-songwriter acoustic track to one featuring a loop machine and his signature fuzzy sound, showcasing the incredible range of a well-rounded musician.

Similarly to his Black Market Karma releases, the influence on Stan's solo material is rooted in 60s pop music, with psychedelic undertones and distortions, and elements of folk and blues. However, the fact that he's playing these tracks alone results in a strongly personal performance that is at the same time technically spotless and deeply sincere. Stan is a perfectionist: aside from the odd co-written track (recent collaborations include the Underground Youth and Tess Parks), he tends to write and record alone and even designs his own album covers. He knows exactly what he wants, but what he's after is not control, but absolute creative freedom.

And this creative freedom is clear in the result: a sincere outpouring of his thoughts, feelings, and emotions, within the frame of an all-consuming love for music that comes through with every note.
